Poland is prepared to host the 2036 Summer Olympic Games, President Karol Nawrocki has told the president of the International Olympics Committee (IOC).
Nawrocki met the head of the IOC, Kirsty Coventry, on Saturday on the sidelines of the 2026 Milan–Cortina Winter Olympics, after attending Friday’s opening ceremony.
He said that while Poland is also considering bids for the 2040 or 2044 Summer Olympics, the “main goal” is 2036.
The Polish president added that his Olympic ambitions were shared by the government, despite occasionally strained relations between the cabinet and Presidential Palace.
“This is something that unites, not divides,” he said.

During his conversation with Coventry, Nawrocki emphasized that Poland is the world’s 20th-largest economy and has experience hosting major sporting events, including the 2012 European Football Championship.

Nawrocki also told Coventry that Poland is a leader in Central Europe and that hosting the Olympics would be “something exceptional” for the entire region.
Coventry was very open to the idea, Nawrocki said in a video posted to the X platform by the head of the President’s Office, Zbigniew Bogucki.
Poland has never hosted the Olympic Games, despite bids for the 2006 and 2022 Winter Olympics and the 2014 Youth Olympic Games.
Other potential contenders for the 2036 Summer Olympics include India, Mexico, Indonesia, Qatar, Turkey and Germany.
