Our Mission

Since 2013, the Budapest Olympic Movement (BOM) — founded in 2005 by leading stock exchange companies, business leaders and members from the sports community — has continued its work with an unchanged goal but with a renewed strategic direction. In response to the 2009 global financial and economic crisis and to the 2011 euro crisis, the organization rethought its original strategy to host the Budapest Olympics in 2012. It decided to dedicate the accumulated knowledge, experience and resources to supporting elite domestic sports life until the Hungarian economy returns to a sustainable growth path. This in turn, would create opportunities to realize Hungary’s great dream.

One of the strongest arguments in favor of Budapest’s Olympic bid is Hungary’s outstanding tradition of Olympic success, which spans over 120 years. Accordingly, since 2013 the civil organization has operated as a foundation with the aim of supporting Hungarian athletes’ Olympic preparations to contribute to our country’s traditionally excellent performance at the Olympic Games. Through this, the foundation also supports Budapest on its long journey toward hosting the Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Founded by the BOM Association and individuals including Sándor Nyúl, Dr. Krisztián Kulcsár and Attila Szalay-Berzeviczy with an initial capital of 35 million HUF, the BOM for Hungarian Sport Foundation took its first step by launching the Albert Berzeviczy Scholarship Program for Olympic team members pursuing higher education or vocational studies alongside their sports careers. Subsequently, in cooperation with the National Association of Managers, it launched the Mentor Program for Hungarian Sport for its scholarship recipients.

The BOM for Hungarian Sport Foundation trusts that thanks to its work over the past two decades, it will remain an attractive partner for participants in the private sector who wish to support both education and sport in Hungary — in the hope of further national sporting successes and of a future Olympic and Paralympic Games hosted by Budapest.
